Our Denomination
Community of Christ is a faith tradition based on God's revelation in Jesus Christ and continuing presence through the Holy Spirit, as proclaimed by scripture, and is the foundation of our faith, identity, mission, and beliefs.
We do our best to uphold these principles (values, concepts, themes) as a faithful response to our heritage and our continuing experience with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
Ours is a story of volunteerism, change, persistence, and a collective yes to a divine call to become a prophetic people. With 250,000 members in more than 60 countries around the world today, Community of Christ fosters a culture of celebrated diversity, healing discernment, democratic processes, empowering inclusiveness, and faithful disagreement.
Experiences in Community of Christ can be varied depending on where you find yourself in Canada. Styles of worship, programming, and theological views are influenced by the culture of the local areas, resulting in rich, unique experiences each and every time.
Opportunities to connect abound with Sunday morning worship services held at each of our 54 congregations, casual meetups located throughout Ontario and British Columbia, year-round camping and retreat programs at our six campgrounds, and regular, interactive virtual ministries streamed via the Internet. Each of these connection opportunities provide support, spiritual growth, comfort, and retreat for members and friends alike.

Our Congregation
The Ottawa Branch of the Community of Christ (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) was organized November 1, 1916. At this time the group was holding their regular worship services in members’ homes. One year later the group rented a hall on Bank Street in central Ottawa and then in 1920 they moved into their first church building at 115 Echo Drive, Ottawa. In 1947 the church building was sold and the members met in the Oddfellows Hall in Westboro, until their present building at 888 Byron Avenue was constructed in 1955. The dedication service was held December 9, 1962 by President W. Wallace Smith, assisted by Elders Donald Kyser, Clifford Taylor, Alexander Caldwell, Dr. Wallace Shute and Bishop Fred Dickson.
The Ottawa Community of Christ congregation continues to be a vibrant, welcoming, loving community that values the worth of every person as a child of God.
